Far East 01.

The words "Far East" conjure up instant magic for me. Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia all hold special memories of sights, sounds and especially, people.

The cities change almost overnight, with dramatic skyscrapers and huge shopping malls dwarfing the hidden temples, quiet gardens and busy markets where life is frantic and exciting.

My inspiration was found in the back streets and the secret areas of the cities where life is carried on in the traditional manner. Little India in Singapore was full of fabrics, spices and flowers.

The Petronis Towers in Kuala Lumpur with their shining metal surfaces dominate the skyline, hiding the Central Market with its craft workers and street vendors selling satay, barbecued on open charcoal fires.

Melaka, with its Portuguese history is like an open-air museum filled with exciting cultural and historical surprises.

The jungles, the cities, the islands and the villages offer more images to the designer than could be captured in a lifetime. It is a privilege to see these countries and share in their cultures.
