"A window is an opening in the wall of a building, usually with an inner frame of wood or metal fitted with glass."

Whilst this may be the dictionary definition it fails to reveal the true meaning of a "window" for the embroiderer who sees beyond the frame. Do you look out or inwards? Is it mundane or does it inspire?

Jali hold a special fascination for me. It is an Indian term for a pierced screen which allows light and air to pass through. Typically it is carved of marble or stone resembling geometric lace. Similar screens in the Islamic world may also be made of wood, metal or ceramic. I have used these screens throughout my designs because of their geometry and intricacy.
